Power system of Ukraine has strengthened: Energoatom has completed the repair of another power unit

At one of the domestic nuclear power plants, the routine maintenance of the power unit was completed four days ahead of schedule. This is already the eighth unit out of nine that are currently, in wartime, operating in the Ukraine-controlled territory, which was repaired within the framework of the largest repair campaign in the national energy sector in the entire history of independence. Thus, the Unified power system of our country was strengthened by an additional 415 MW of capacity, which is crucial at the beginning of the cold period.

"One more NPP unit will be brought back into operation after scheduled maintenance as early as next month. Therefore, all nine power units located on the Ukraine-controlled territory will be connected to the power grid and will operate at the maximum available capacity. Thus, even during this autumn-winter period, nuclear generation will provide more than 50% of the electricity needed by Ukraine," Petro Kotin said.

"Nuclear generation became the basis of the country's power system last winter and will remain so this heating season. In general, the electricity generated by our power plants is enough to cover the consumers’ needs. Employees of all types of generation and distribution networks work 24/7 to prepare the power system for winter in time," Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko said.

Energoatom’s President once again thanked the nuclear workers, who professionally, and even ahead of schedule, carry out repair work: "This is extremely important, because precisely due to the repair time reduction, the Company generated an additional amount of electricity, which contributed to the strengthening of the domestic power system and the stable supply of electricity to Ukraine and Ukrainians," Petro Kotin stressed.

It is worth noting that the power unit connected today runs on American nuclear fuel manufactured by Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB involving Ukrainian Energoatom’s specialists. Moreover, this fact demonstrates Ukraine's course to strengthen energy independence. After all, earlier reactors of this type operated only on russian-made nuclear fuel, but now the monopoly of the russian federation on the nuclear fuel market has been shaken. And it is Ukraine that is demonstrating to the world how to eliminate a terrorist state from nuclear technology markets.
