During the meeting with the Director General of the World Nuclear Association (WNA) Sama Bilbao-y-Lyon, President of SE "NNEGC "Energoatom" Petro Kotin thanked for the invitation to the World Nuclear Symposium 2023 and the opportunity to discuss further cooperation with the WNA, support of Ukraine and the Ukrainian nuclear sector from the organization, as well as the contribution of Ukrainian nuclear power professionals to its work.
Petro Kotin told Ms. Bilbao-y-Lyon about the current situation at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP and stressed that russia's full-fledged aggression against Ukraine has put and keeps radiation and nuclear safety at risk, which the civilized world has never seen.
"The international community should join forces to return the ZNPP under the control of its legitimate operator – Energoatom – as soon as possible," the Company’s President said.
He emphasized that attacks on nuclear facilities cause serious concerns not only about safety but also about the prospects for the further development of nuclear industry around the world.
Petro Kotin reminded that nuclear generation in Ukraine provides over 55% of total energy needs and is one of the key pillars of domestic energy security. Moreover, taking into account new challenges and tasks, the development of the nuclear industry is a priority not only for Energoatom but also for the entire country.
