Commissioning of spray ponds No. 3, 4, 5 at SUNPP

In 2022, the Comprehensive retrofitting of the service water equipment system at SUNPP will be completed to lift restrictions on electricity production due to the high temperature of circulation water and increase electricity output.

The main goal of the project is to reduce the water temperature in the reservoir by 7-8 degrees in the summertime, which will allow:

• preserve the surrounding natural environment, flora and fauna of the reservoir;

• lift restrictions on electricity production in the summertime due to insufficient cooling;

• increase the amount of electricity generated by the SUNPP in the warm season by 40%.

Four out of the five planned spray ponds have already been built and put into operation.

• the 3rd and 4th spray ponds were commissioned in May 2022;

• The fifth spray pond is planned to be commissioned by the end of 2022.

Due to the project implementation, optimal operating conditions of NPP power units will be ensured, while the additional annual electricity output will amount to 2549 million kWh (maximum estimate).
