In 2021, the Atomenergomash plant, which is a separated subdivision of NNEGC «Energoatom», started works on launching nuclear fuel (fuel assemblies) manufacturing using Westinghouse technology in order to completely replace fuel of russian origin.
On January 17, 2022, NNEGC «Energoatom» and Westinghouse concluded an agreement on the evaluation and qualification of Atomenergomash fabrication lines for fuel assembly manufacturing.
in 2022 will start manufacturing components (top and bottom nozzles) for Westinghouse fuel assemblies. Localization will make up 20%;
in 2023 plans to install additional capacities for manufacturing other components of the fuel assembly and its assembling from all components;
in 2024 plans to start manufacturing (assembling) fuel assemblies, 50% of the components of which will be Ukrainian manufactured. Others - enriched uranium and zirconium tubes - will be imported;
in 2025 plans to start operating at full capacity in manufacturing fuel assemblies to meet all the needs of Ukrainian NPPs.
