SS «Khmelnytskyy NPP»

Khmelnytskyy NPP is located in the north of Khmelnytskyy region. The satellite city of the NPP is Netishyn, located on the right bank of the Horyn River.

Background

Construction of the power plant began in 1981.

The main stages of construction:

  • in 1987 - the first VVER-1000 unit with a capacity of 1,000 MW was put into operation;

  • in 2004 - the second VVER-1000 unit with a capacity of 1,000 MW was put into operation;

  • on July 25, 2019, the license was obtained from the SNRIU for the right to conduct activities at the life cycle stage «operation of the nuclear installation of Khmelnytskyy NPP unit 1».

Number of power units — 2.

Reactor type — VVER-1000.

Total capacity — 2000 MW.

The power plant was designed to be four-unit.

Its construction began in 1981, and in late 1987 the first power unit was put into commercial operation. Sites for three more units have been prepared. Construction of the second power unit began in 1983 and it had to be launched in late 1991. By the time of the freezing of new NPPs construction, the main production units were installed and staff was trained.

The construction of Khmelnytskyy NPP unit 2 was recommenced in 1993, and on August 8, 2004, it was connected to the unified power system of Ukraine. In September 2005, the unit was accepted into commercial operation.

Annually, the NPP generates almost 15 bln kW of electricity.

At present, the NPP site remains the most promising for the expansion of Ukrainian nuclear power facilities. KhNPP is the most promising Ukrainian NPP in terms of unlocking Ukraine's export potential in the European energy market.

Currently, the construction of new power units is among the priorities of the Khmelnytskyy NPP.

Completion of new Khmelnytsky NPP power units will increase production capacity and preserve the key importance of nuclear generation for Ukraine's economy.
