Energoatom and Westinghouse agreed to speed up nuclear fuel production using Westinghouse technology in Ukraine

On September 29, an online meeting was held between President of SE "NNEGC "Energoatom" Petro Kotin and Managing Director of Westinghouse Electric Sweden Aziz Dag, during which the parties discussed the acceleration of cooperation in existing projects, in particular – the production of nuclear fuel to meet the needs of NPPs using Westinghouse technology at Energoatom's facilities.

The parties summed up the loading of the first batch of nuclear fuel, manufactured by the Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB company featuring Energoatom specialists, into one of RNPP reactors and agreed on the terms of delivery of new batches of Westinghouse nuclear fuel for VVER-440.

Thus, given the positive Ukrainian experience of substituting russian fuel, striving of European countries for energy independence and phasing out of russian services in the field of nuclear fuel production, Westinghouse plans to speed up the manufacturing of nuclear fuel components and start supplying the appropriate VVER-440 fuel assemblies to European NPPs.

It is also very important to create additional nuclear fuel production capacity to cover the world's growing needs. Energoatom’s manufacturing line will help address these very issues.

Westinghouse and Energoatom agreed to speed up the construction of a manufacturing line of fuel assemblies for nuclear reactors using Westinghouse technology at Energoatom's facilities in Ukraine.

As a reminder, under existing agreements, a manufacturing line was scheduled to be deployed in Ukraine in 2026.
