The head of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” Petro Kotin gave an exclusive interview to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation NHK.
He emphasized that after the Russian military had occupied the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the number of employees decreased from about 11,000 to 4,000, and their experience and qualifications were insufficient to operate the plant. In addition, at least 500 russian military personnel were constantly present on the plant site.
The head of NAEK reminded that in June of last year, the Russians had blown up the Kakhovka HPP, as a result of which the reservoir from which water was supplied to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant became shallow: "Now we have only one cooling pond."
Petro Kotin also informed that the only possible solution for the restoration of nuclear and radiation safety was the de-occupation of the plant, the withdrawal of all Russian troops from the territory of the ZNPP and its return under the control of Ukraine.
