During the business trip of the Head of Energoatom Petro Kotin to the Khmelnytsky NPP, the process-related passage gallery was installed between Unit 2 and Unit 3 on the plant site. That event was part of the restoration activities on Unit 3 and Unit 4 of the Khmelnytsky NPP. After all, the new passage gallery will connect two power units.
According to the Head of NNEGC, the passage gallery installed between the power units has several types of importance. “First of all, the process-related one. Because this will facilitate the preparation of the power unit for the equipment installation and supply of necessary resources, such as steam, electricity, and compressed air, from the available NPP infrastructure. And secondly, it has symbolic importance, as the passage gallery will connect the operating units of the KhNPP with the power unit that we are restoring,” he explained.
Today, the completion status of Unit 3 of the Khmelnytsky NPP is 75-80%. Moreover, negotiations with the Bulgarian side regarding the supply of the equipment that is missing at the KhNPP site are currently being completed.
The Head of NNEGC emphasized that the VVER technology was familiar to Ukrainian nuclear employees. The domestic nuclear fleet has 15 reactors of this type. “We are very good at this technology. Our specialists built such nuclear units; they have considerable expertise and the required experience to complete the activities on Units 3 and 4 of the Khmelnytsky NPP and put them into operation,”Petro Kotin said.
He also reminded that during the period of independence, Energoatom was able to complete the construction of three power units using the VVER-1000 technology.
The Company will complete two units at the Khmelnytsky NPP without any intervention of the ruscists.
