Minister of Energy of Ukraine and U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine discussed a large-scale repair campaign in energy sector

On July 26, 2023, Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Ukraine Bridget Brink. The parties discussed areas of cooperation to provide assistance to the Ukrainian energy sector in recovery and strengthening the power system stability.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to preparation for the upcoming heating season, which may be quite challenging given the likely continuation of russian attacks on energy infrastructure facilities.

Herman Halushchenko stressed that the most extensive ever repair campaign at energy facilities is underway in Ukraine, and measures are being taken to strengthen the physical protection of energy infrastructure and decentralize generation. He emphasized the fact that the highest number of professionals is involved in the work, in order to restore damaged objects, in particular transmission systems, as soon as possible, and to protect against future enemy attacks. Meanwhile, the head of the Ministry of Energy highlighted that the most reliable protection for energy infrastructure is air defense systems.

Separately, the meeting focused on ensuring nuclear and radiation safety at the russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP, as well as cooperation at the international level to step up pressure on the russian federation in the nuclear sector.

Minister thanked the USA for its assistance to the energy sector of Ukraine and informed the Ambassador about the current needs of power companies.
