On January 20, 2023, the Ukrainian government adopted the ordinance «On organizational measures for the construction of power units of the Khmelnytskyy NPP» and now the project feasibility study (PFS) of their construction using the AP1000®️ technology of the American company Westinghouse and other project documentation will be developed.
AP1000 is a proven Gen III+ reactor featuring unique fully passive safety systems, modularized standard design, industry-leading operability performance, and load-following capability.

We hope that in a few years, we will together connect the new AP1000 power unit of the Khmelnytskyy nuclear power plant to the power system», President of SE «NNEGC «Energoatom» Petro Kotin stressed. «We welcome the government decision, with which we continue the implementation of modern technologies, strengthen our energy front and accelerate the reorientation of the Ukrainian energy industry to Western standards».
As a reminder, On August 31, 2021, SE «NNEGC «Energoatom» and Westinghouse, in the presence of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a Memorandum on the construction of five power units in Ukraine using the American AP1000® technology.
On June 2, 2022, at the Khmelnytskyy NPP site, the parties signed another 3 agreements, in particular, for increasing the number of NPP power units to be built in Ukraine using AP1000® technology from five to nine. At the same time, the commemorative sign laid on the occasion of the start of the construction of units 5 and 6 of Khmelnytskyy NPP using AP1000® technology was unveiled.
