On August 16, 2022, during his working trip to Rivne nuclear power plant, the President of SE «NNEGC «Energoatom» Petro Kotin visited the soon-to-be construction site of Rivne NPP power unit 5 (it was determined back in 2004). During the meeting with RNPP executives and operational staff, Energoatom CEO along with the Director of SS «Atomprojectengineering» Mykola Bozhko held a presentation on the project and the construction schedule of the new power unit.
The 1,100 MW unit will be built using the state-of-the-art US Westinghouse AP1000 technology. Several pre-design works have already been carried out, in particular, an analysis of the existing and prospective use of water resources in the NPP site as well as an analysis of the existing RNPP infrastructure and intersystem connections of the western region of the power system of Ukraine. Pre-design works were also carried out to determine the constraining geological conditions for choosing a power unit.
As a reminder, SE «NNEGC «Energoatom» and Westinghouse Electric Company signed an agreement on the construction of nine new power units in Ukraine using AP1000 technology. Energoatom has already started the implementation of the project for the construction of power units 5 and 6 at Khmelnytskyy NPP, which is scheduled to be completed by 2029. The next power unit to be built by the Company will be Rivne NPP power unit 5. Its commissioning should take place in 2032.
