Acting CEO of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” Petro Kotin discussed the development of joint projects in the nuclear industry with British Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Harris

The British diplomat met with the head of Energoatom on 16 January 2024 at the Company's headquarters.

Petro Kotin spoke about the work of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” during the war, the progress of the Company's corporatisation and the challenges it is overcoming despite the Russian aggression. He also noted that NNEGC closely cooperates with British companies in nuclear projects. In particular, it has an agreement with Urenco to supply enriched uranium for the production of nuclear fuel to be used by Energoatom's NPPs.

"Ukraine's partnership with the UK in various areas, including between companies in the nuclear industry, is extremely important. The United Kingdom's support in driving out Russia from the nuclear fuel market is of strategic importance for the security of both Ukraine and Europe," said the Acting CEO of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”.

Petro Kotin also informed about the increasingly deteriorating situation at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP: the plant's equipment continues to degrade, and the Russians are still restricting the IAEA's access to all NPP facilities.

Martin Harris noted that the UK will continue to assist Ukraine, including in protecting critical equipment. In addition, he expressed his admiration for the fact that Energoatom continues to implement ambitious projects despite martial law.

"Cooperation in the energy sector is an important part of the overall partnership between the countries. We are helping Ukraine in its determination to become energy independent, and nuclear power should play a significant role in this. Cooperation with Urenco is a good example of our partnership to deprive Russia of a resource it uses as a weapon," said the British Ambassador to Ukraine.

In conclusion, Petro Kotin thanked the British government and people for their continued assistance and support of Ukraine in the fight for independence.
