Energoatom is ready to strengthen cooperation with Romania and Moldova in the nuclear field

Petro Kotin, President of SE "NNEGC "Energoatom", said this during his speech at the conference "The Reconstruction of Ukraine and the Strategic Role of Romania".

He briefed those attending about the situation in the Ukrainian energy system, noting that domestic nuclear power plants cover over 55% of the country's total electricity demand. Meanwhile, Europe’s largest nuclear facility – the Zaporizhia NPP – remains occupied by the russian military, which has turned it into a military base and a source of potential nuclear disaster for Ukraine and the entire world.

But even despite the military aggression, Energoatom plans to implement several nuclear projects, in particular, to complete Khmelnytska NPP power units 3 and 4, to build new power units using Westinghouse AP1000 technology, and to deploy a fleet of SMRs and microreactors.

"Energoatom intends to create a hub of nuclear technologies, which will include mechanical engineering and industrial production of essential equipment and components," Petro Kotin said.

Lastly, the Company’s President thanked the partners for their support and assistance to the Ukrainian people in the fight against russian aggression and stressed that Energoatom is ready to strengthen cooperation in the nuclear field with Romanian and Moldovan companies.
