On June 14, 2023, Energoatom’s power unit (with a capacity of 1,000 MW) was reconnected to the power grid. The capacity is being ramped up. The planned maintenance of the unit began on April 1 and was completed 20 days ahead of schedule.
Therefore, the unified power system of Ukraine was strengthened by 1000 MW of electricity.
Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko stressed that after an extremely challenging winter in the country, the current repair campaign at energy facilities is the most extensive over the whole period of independence.
"The power unit will add the necessary 1,000 MW of power to the energy system to increase its stability," he said. "For consumers, this will mean that there is power in the system, and the energy supply will be stable."
Energoatom President Petro Kotin thanked the Company's specialists, who brought back the power unit to operation as quickly as possible.
"Our professionals," he emphasized, "once again proved that they can do the impossible by completing repair works well ahead of schedule. Nuclear power engineers have planned how to minimize the overall repair period and speed up the execution of work without sacrificing quality. I am proud of the fact that we managed to do this so that Ukrainians were stably supplied with electricity. I’m grateful to all our employees."
As a reminder, six more VVER-1000 power units (with a total capacity of 6,000 MW) of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant are currently not in operation, all of them are in a shutdown state.
