On May 13, 2024, in the presence of Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine Kim Hyung-Tae, head of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” Petro Kotin and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Young CHOI signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
“It is important that, together with the Korean side, we sign this memorandum during the war and, without waiting for its end, we are moving forward. I am confident that together we will build the power industry in Ukraine that will meet the best global standards,” Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko said.
Petro Kotin stressed that the enhancement of cooperation with the South Korean Company would help Energoatom in the construction of new nuclear facilities on the territory of Ukraine and expressed hope that NNEGC would implement large infrastructure and restoration projects using Hyundai technologies and experience.
“South Korea is one of the leaders in the nuclear industry; its specialists have great experience in providing expertise for nuclear facilities. Cooperation with Hyundai is very important for NNEGC. It is interesting that the equipment we have purchased from our partners – Westinghouse – for the construction of new units at the Khmelnytsky NPP was manufactured with the support of South Korean specialists. Thus, we are actually working with South Korea in nuclear power industry, and we will only strengthen these activities,” Petro Kotin emphasized.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine Kim Hyung-Tae said that the South Korean government was working to help Ukraine overcome the energy crisis. He also added that the enhancement of partnership between companies would promote the exchange of nuclear technology and experience between countries.
