NNEGC “Energoatom” cooperates with the leading developers of SMR in Europe and the U.S. regarding the possibility of introducing their technologies in Ukraine. The very same day the year before, the Memorandum of Understanding on the development of a small modular reactor was signed in the presence of Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, Head of NNEGC “Energoatom” Petro Kotin and Chief Executive Officer of Westinghouse Patrick Fragman.
Westinghouse is moving forward with the development and licensing of its technology. At the end of August, the company received permission from the UK Department of Energy Security and Net Zero to participate in the Generic Design Assessment (GDA). There is an agreement to build four AP300 units in Northeast England.
For reference: The AP300 uses the engineering designs, components and supply chains of the AP1000, and already formed technical skills to simplify licensing and lower the cost of the process. The AP300 is a single-loop version of the AP1000 and will be able to generate 300 MW of electricity and 900 MW of thermal power. The footprint area of one unit is about a quarter of a football field.
