Energoatom’s President Petro Kotin met with several Company’s partners within the framework of the World Nuclear Symposium 2023

On September 6-8, 2023, President of SE "NNEGC "Energoatom" Petro Kotin paid an official visit to London (Great Britain), where he attended the World Nuclear Symposium 2023 at the invitation of the World Nuclear Association (WNA). This prestigious forum attracts world leaders in uranium mining and processing, nuclear fuel production, construction of new nuclear facilities and operation of existing ones.

During the event, global top nuclear industry leaders, experts and executives discussed nuclear power’s role as well as share information and experience that will elevate nuclear energy as a key contributor in the transition to a clean and sustainable world. Furthermore, within the framework of the international conference, Energoatom delegation led by Petro Kotin held several bilateral meetings with the Company's strategic partners.

In particular, President of SE "NNEGC "Energoatom" had the honor to discuss with the Director General of the World Nuclear Association (WNA) Sama Bilbao-y-Lyon further cooperation with the WNA, support of Ukraine and the Ukrainian nuclear sector by the organization, as well as the contribution of Ukrainian nuclear workers to its work.

At the World Nuclear Symposium 2023 site, Petro Kotin met with all the executives of Energoatom’s strategic partners: Cameco, Westinghouse, and Urenco. The parties discussed the security of execution of the current contracts for the supply of services for the processing of uranium products and the manufacture of fuel for the needs of Ukrainian NPPs, taking into account the complete rejection by Energoatom of the services of the aggressor country, the situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP and the need for the plant to be de-occupied as soon as possible.

Petro Kotin focused special attention on the development of the Concept of a safe nuclear future by the working group under the leadership of the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko, which includes Energoatom’s President. It is being developed based on the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the first point of which is "Radiation and nuclear safety".

With Orano’s leadership, discussions were held related to the possibility of cooperation and the volume of the necessary supply of natural uranium hexafluoride from 2028.

Furthermore, an important memorandum of understanding in the field of uranium conversion and a non-disclosure agreement were also signed in London. The documents were signed by Energoatom’s President Petro Kotin and President of the US conversion company ConverDyn Malcolm Critchley.

Future cooperation with ConverDyn includes assistance in increasing the in-house uranium production at Ukraine's Eastern Mining and Processing Plant and building a plant to convert the natural product mined in Ukraine into uranium hexafluoride, a process that is an integral part of creating a complete nuclear cycle in the country. Energoatom’s President met with the head of the UK Export Finance (UKEF) Tim Reid as well. For the first time ever, the agency provided credit guarantees for the implementation of a project in the nuclear field, and this is a guarantee of SE "NNEGC "Energoatom" for lending in Western banks Barclays and Deutsche Bank for the nuclear fuel purchase program for GBP 192 million.

Petro Kotin expressed his gratitude to the agency and the government of Great Britain, as well as all partners, for their high trust in Ukraine and the Ukrainian Energoatom. He noted that the consolidation of the efforts of the Company's reliable international partners significantly helps Ukrainian NPPs to continue generating electricity even during targeted attacks on the energy infrastructure.
