Zaporizhzhya NPP should be returned under the control of Ukraine! – Petro Kotin

The creation of a security zone around Zaporizhzhya NPP seized by russian troops, the de-occupation and further demilitarization of the power plant, as well as its transfer under full control to the legitimate operator – Energoatom – remain priority tasks for Ukraine and the entire international community. This was stated by President of SE "NNEGC "Energoatom" Petro Kotin.

"The largest in Europe Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant has been captured by russian armed groups for more than a year. They actually turned the ZNPP into a military base, constantly violating all norms and principles of nuclear and radiation safety. The occupationists store weapons, explosives, and heavy equipment directly in the turbine halls of the power units, control the power plant's emergency infrastructure, as well as planted mines in the surrounding area and buildings. Neither IAEA personnel nor inspectors are allowed to enter these zones. All this poses a direct threat to the nuclear safety of Ukraine and the whole world," Energoatom CEO emphasized.

Petro Kotin once again called to stop arbitrariness and nuclear terror on the part of the invaders as soon as possible, which is possible only in one way – by returning control over the Zaporizhzhya NPP and its satellite town Enerhodar to Ukraine.

"The entire world community, the governments of all countries should not stop on this path. The safe zone is the main condition for ensuring the nuclear safety of the whole world. We are grateful to the International Atomic Energy Agency for its constant support," Petro Kotin added. He thanked IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi for intensifying consultations to establish a demilitarized zone around the ZNPP.
