The Ukrainian delegation, led by Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko, held a meeting with Raphael Grossi, Director General of the International Nuclear Energy Agency, in Vienna; the meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors is taking place there.
The Ukrainian delegation was also composed by Head of Energoatom Petro Kotin and Head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine Oleh Korikov.
German Galushchenko informed the Agency Head about the situation in the Ukrainian energy system, which had become significantly more complicated after Russia's renewed massive attacks on energy infrastructure facilities. Minister emphasized that the russian federation was targeting thermal and hydroelectric power plants, transformer substations and power transmission lines. He reminded that there been a blackout of Ukrainian NPPs in November 2022. The parties discussed the need to coordinate efforts to prevent the recurrence of such a situation.
German Galushchenko informed Raphael Grossi about the active work on preparation for the completion of the construction project of units 3 and 4 at the Khmelnytsky NPP. Moreover, the IAEA Head emphasized the extreme importance of nuclear energy for Ukraine, wished success in the implementation of the project and expressed support for the further development of the industry.
