On March 2, 2023, a rotation of IAEA experts took place at Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant (ZNPP), which has been seized by the russian military for almost a year. It was supposed to be held in early February but the ruscists blocked it.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi announced that a new team of Agency experts had already arrived at the ZNPP and thanked all involved parties for their efforts to implement the rotation.
"The IAEA's mission at the seized by the russians Zaporizhzhya NPP will help deter them from committing new acts of nuclear terrorism and possible provocations," President of SE "NNEGC "Energoatom" Petro Kotin stressed.
As a reminder, since January 2023, permanent missions of the Agency have been working at all Ukrainian nuclear power plants located on Ukraine-controlled territory. IAEA representatives have been present at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP since early September 2022. The request for the deployment of such missions was received by the International Atomic Energy Agency from the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ministry of Energy.
