Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant must be safely returned to Ukraine – Deputy Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations Nathalie Broadhurst

Nathalie Broadhurst stated that France is very concerned about the threat to the safety and security of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities. The deterioration in access conditions, which prevented the IAEA from rotating the team of experts scheduled for this weekend, is extremely worrying.

”russia bears sole responsibility for this situation and, as we know, it was russia that forcibly seized the plant, massing armed forces and military equipment on site. The mining of the surrounding area and the consolidation of military positions on the power plant site are unacceptable”, she emphasized during the meeting of the UN Security Council.

France continues to urge russia to return full control of all nuclear facilities to Ukraine, and to cease putting pressure and threats on ZNPP personnel. Above all, russia must stop using the Zaporizhzhya plant as a military base.

”Our position is clear. The Zaporizhzhya plant must be safely returned to Ukraine. russia must withdraw its troops and stop playing with fire”.
